South London's Brightest Hidden GemOne of my favourite places in Forest Hill is the magnificent Horniman Museum and Gardens. My family and I have spent lots of time over the years visiting the place and enjoying the different collections and events it hosts. And the best bit is it's FREE!It's one of those magical places where there really is something to hold everyone's attention and interest. Natural history, anthropology, music, ocean life and events and activities that bring learning to life regardless of your age.My young daughters always find something new to discover and there's even an area where your little adventures can handle some of the exhibits.I was surprised when a friend of mine who lives in north London said he had never heard of the museum. A visit later, he's now a huge fan and described it as 'one of London's hidden gems.'If you have never visited put it high up on you're to do list. The museum began life as the private collection of tea trader Frederick Horniman. His company was once the biggest tea merchant in the World and he was a voracious collector of things from across the globe. His private collection grew and grew until the point where in 1901 he gave the museum to the London County Council so the public could enjoy it and learn from it.And that's something we are still doing in 2016 so I think Fred deserves a big thanks. For more information visit: www.horniman.ac.ukThe Horniman in Numbers500,000 visitors a year.250,000 natural history exhibits.300,000 objects archived.15 different aquarium display areas.16 acres of parks and gardensThe Horniman Museum and Gardens is just one of the many reasons we love Forest Hill.If you have any property related questions about the SE23 market or your home's current value please don't hesitate to contact me.Thanks for readingBen,The Horniman Museum and Gardens is just one of the many reasons we love Forest Hill.
